(more…)

Christian Reister: NACHT

“Nacht” (“Night”) is the title of Christian Reister’s latest series of black/white photos taken at clubs, bars, dives, takeaways and other settings of the Berliner nightlife. A first excerpt from the ongoing project will be shown in a solo exhibition at the legendary Hotel Bogota, photoplatz/Kabinett, near Kurfürstendamm, Berlin. The photos don’t show the usual glamorous pictures one might expect from the glossy magazines. Reister is interested in the collateral damages of a night gone awry and focuses on the side scenes.

At the evening of the opening there will be a special live performance of the musicians Andreas Albrecht and Marco Ponce Kärgel playing songs from Albrecht’s latest album “TAGEBUCHt” along with screenings of many more photographs from Reister’s NACHT project.

Alexander in Persien

Reister + von Aspern project

Christian Reister and Kay von Aspern show special and very offbeat moments, encounters, discoveries and nuances of every day life from the capitals of Vienna and Berlin in a joint project. Originally inspired by Natalie Opocensky and Thorsten Strasas’ Wien | Berlin exhibition last year, Seconds2Real colleagues von Aspern and Reister create their very own version of the topic by mixing and mashing some of their best photographs from recent years in one show. This joint project it is not only an exhibition project, it’s a book project also.

Read more about the book and order it here.

Check the facebook event page for the Berlin show opening in just three weeks.

Thorsten Strasas at FENSTER61

Foto: Thorsten Strasas

Thorsten Strasas’ series “Berlin. Grey.” ist currently on exhibition at FENSTER61. FENSTER61 is a Berliner photo exhibition place in a shop window in Mitte. The exhibition will be up until the 14th of February.

From the press release:
The urban human being lives. With and within major city architecture, as well as within the spaces of urban centers. Cramped or crushed to death by wideness, occasionally like a redundant relict out of a time when he himself was the center of the colony. Crowded to the border and left over – not knowing, whereto with himself and still meeting himself along the way.
Thorsten Strasas sees and shows encounters between the human being and his environmental space. Pictures these moments and shows the rest of disappearing individuality in urban space.

Out now: ALEX by Christian Reister

The long awaited ALEX photobook by Berlin based photographer and long-time Seconds2Real friend Christian Reister is finally available.

ALEX is the short term for Alexanderplatz, a large public square in the central Mitte district of Berlin. Despite the German reunification 20 years ago, the Alexanderplatz has retained its socialist character, including the much-graffitied “Fountain of Friendship between Peoples”. Between 2008 and 2010 Christian Reister photographed daily life at Alexanderplatz using only a small compact camera set to panorama mode (for all you gearheads out there, a Panasonic LX3).

It’s about one year ago that i first saw Christians ALEX images. Already at the first look it was pretty obvious to me that Christian had created something very special. ALEX is not just another ‘best of street photography compilation’. It’s a stunning series of street photographs that actually work as a whole, an outstanding reflection of life at Alexanderplatz (which i personally consider as beeing the most depressing place in Berlin).

Over the recent months i have been following the creation of ‘ALEX the book’ closely. Christian Reister decided to bring out the ALEX series as a self-published photobook printed in Berlin. For those interested in self-publication: Make sure to check out blog61 for the documentation of this books creation process.

ALEX is sold through Christian Reisters website. This fairly priced book is highly recommended and certainly a good investment for those interested in european street photography.
